THIS WEEK IT’S A NOTE ON…the present moment

A traumatic reaction increasingly disconnects us from life. Healing trauma, then, is about reconnection.

There are a great many things that we slowly, steadily reconnect to as we heal: our body, our true self, our emotions, our self-compassion, our vitality.

Different strategies and tools can facilitate reconnection to each of these, and I dearly hope that you learn and integrate all you need. But were you to learn only one, this is the one to focus on:

Learn to be here.

Admittedly, living in the present moment can be painful because in the present moment we feel and see things just as they are. And we don’t always like what we find.

The present moment often holds the truth or emotion that we’ve been subconsciously running from. Here sucks, sometimes.

But the present moment also holds the good things too. It’s also the doorway to deep, long-lasting healing.

– Being present gradually heals trauma

– Being present gradually heals the nervous system

– Being present gradually heals addiction

– Being present gradually heals relationships

– Being present heals, full-stop.

It’s ok if you can’t be here today. Today, your intention is what matters.

Freedom from trauma is found as we understand that, as well as our own personal goals, we all share one overarching long-term intention: to be more present, more aware and more here.

For today though, we let go of this long-term intention and try to trust that if we take teeny-tiny intentional steps in the direction of our goal every day, we’ll get there.
